Your recordings are always yours. You can download your files anytime, and you can sync them to Google Drive.
That’s our goal. Even if we’re not around, we want the service to keep running. We’re actively working on an escrow fund and a digital trust so files can be accessed 100+ years from now. It isn’t guaranteed yet, but that’s the plan.
It's surprisingly difficult to do in a reliable way.
You can record video on your phone, but it lives on your personal device/cloud account - hard for others to access without your passwords.
You can record on an old school tape recorder, but what happens if it gets lost of damaged.
The real power in Capture Coins is that there's a physical key to your digital recordings.
With that said: Best free method we found is to record and email each one to the person - maybe setup a secret account. However, you can't set unlock dates for each message - it's all or nothing.
No. Your recordings are encrypted. Only someone with the coin code and the answers you set can open them, and Capture Coins doesn’t listen to your recordings. See our Terms of Service.
No. It’s a real keepsake coin. Scan its QR code or type its web address to open the messages recorded for that person.

A QR code is just a picture of a web address. The address is printed on the coin too, so it doesn’t depend on any one app or reader.
Your child scans the coin or types the web address, enters the 6-digit code, then their name, birthday, and the answer to a question you set.
Open Sparks in the app for ideas, like “What you are proud of today in 10 words.” Short is fine.
No. Recordings stay private in the app until you add them to a coin.
You can’t edit a message or change when it opens once it’s on a coin, but you can remove it.
